Introducing Haz

Imagine a world where you can see the real time value of your belongings on one feed. Your clothes, electronics, furniture, books… the list goes on. Just like your standard stocks & shares investment app, but for the things lying around your house. Now imagine a world where you can easily unlock the value of these items, trading them in for cash instantly.

The good thing is, you don’t have to imagine this world anymore. This is Haz’s world.

Why is Haz Needed?

The growth of ecommerce, social media and Buy Now Pay Later has fuelled hyper consumption, driving consumers to constantly be searching for their next purchase. The problem is, what happens to the old stuff that has to make way for the latest and greatest models, versions, trends? Usually, the answer involves collecting dust.

The average UK household owns 42 unused items at a cumulative value of £2,600. That is a lot of dust! This raises the first problem: people want to find easy ways to convert their unwanted belongings into cash, however, they don’t have the time, energy or knowledge to do so. Yes, eBay, Vinted & Depop exist… but taking photos, writing descriptions, talking to weird buyers, paying for packaging and delivery is enough to scare off a large proportion of the global population.

There is also this small problem called Climate Change, which is being driven (partly) by the amount of waste large industries such as apparel and electronics produce alongside consumers who use their products. Currently, solutions to make it easy for consumers to recycle the things they own through the second hand market, are few and far between. This means people opt to do nothing (inertia) or discard over reselling, having a detrimental impact on the environment. We believe by offering a convenient way for consumers to see the value of their belongings and then being able to sell said belongings in a couple of clicks, is a great way to get more people actively participating in the circular economy. After all, if everyone sold a second hand item of clothing this year, it would be the equivalent of 76 million cars being taken off the road for a day.

The sustainable future of our planet relies on more people buying and selling second hand goods; and we want to make this as easy as possible to do.

Finally, with the rapid emergence of various online second hand marketplaces, the demand for high quality second hand inventory is at an all time high. However, currently this supply is extremely fragmented, largely coming from individual consumers via a variety of channels. By building a superior experience specifically for individual sellers, Haz will streamline the supply of second hand household items, becoming one of the largest suppliers to these online second hand marketplaces and smaller boutique incumbents. Simply put, Haz is on a mission to centralise the supply of great quality second hand items by creating a consumer experience that is unrivalled on the sell side (rather than the buy side which is what most second hand solutions focus on it seems).

How does Haz Help?

Haz enters the chat. Haz provides all our users with a feed of their belongings that have maintained some sort of resale value in the second hand market. This feed is automatically created and updated through the user integrating their email with the Haz app. This means, without lifting a finger, a consumer can buy a new iPhone 15 and then the next day check their Haz app to see it added to their feed, with a real time resale value attached to it. Haz is also able to pull any past purchases within the last 24 months, meaning users can track and unlock the value of any items that are upto 2 years old.

This presents a step change in the liquidity of household assets, empowering consumers to make more informed decisions as to when they decide to sell their belongings and for how much.

So, instead of taking photos, writing descriptions, researching values, communicating with buyers, ordering packaging and delivery… now you can just download Haz.

Who is Haz for?

We realise Haz won’t be for absolutely everyone. Some people do in fact like the experience of selling on eBay and Vinted etc, and we are okay with this. However, we believe there is a huge proportion of the population that value convenience, time savings and simplicity when looking to trade their stuff into cash.

We also believe people like to understand the value of the things they own. These are Haz’s people.
